In an effort to save money for Sharyland ISD and run the Sharyland Advanced Academic Academy more efficiently, changes will be made to the early college high school.
An early college high school is a program approved by the state to help first generation college students who are at risk of dropping out. The goal is to graduate the students with 60 college credit hours.
There are three basic models for an early college high school – stand alone, comprehensive and school within a school. Sharyland’s academy, also known as SA3, has been working as what Superintendent Robert O’Connor calls a hybrid since it opened in the fall of 2014; it’s a blend of a stand alone early college and a school within a school.
