20181116 Football CHS vs SPHSIn what was a back-and-forth game all night long, the Calhoun Sandcrabs defeated the Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks in Friday night''s bi-district round playoff game by a score of 56-55.

The Diamondbacks scored first on a 89 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Rosales to Lavar Lindo with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter. After the Sandcrabs tied it at 7-7, Pioneer's Tristan Castillo scored his first of two rushing touchdowns with 10:10 remaining in the second quarter to give the Diamondbacks a 14-7 lead. Castillo's second TD run came with 3:40 remaining in the second quarter to give Pioneer a 21-14 lead at the time. After Calhoun tied the score at 21-21, a touchdown pass from Rosales to Luke Padilla with 1:14 remaining in the second quarter game Pioneer a 28-21 halftime lead.

Calhoun put 21 additional points on the scoreboard in the third quarter, while Pioneer only put 14 points of their own on the board, to give the Sandcrabs a 42-35 lead at the end of the third quarter. After Calhoun took a 56-49 lead with only 3:47 remaining in the game, Pioneer put a drive together that ended with a TD run on a keeper by Rosales which made the score 56-55 Calhoun with exactly one minute remaining on the clock.

Not wanting to have the game go into overtime, the Diamondbacks went for two points in hopes of winning the game right then and there. However, Rosales was stopped short of the goal line as he tried to break through the right side of the offensive line on a keeper and the Diamondbacks fell just two yards and two points short of winning the game and extending their season into the Area round of the playoffs.
