Rattlers fall to Mavericks in 3rd round of playoffs

20121130 Football Madison vs Sharyland lg-31Of the 64 Conference 5A Division 1 high school football teams that qualify for the state playoffs each year, only one can win its final game – the eventual state champions. Being that one team is what Coach Ron Adame and his Sharyland football team set as their goal long before Rattlers quarterback Tres Barrera took his first snap from center this season.

After two weeks of non-district play, eight weeks of district competition and two rounds of the state playoffs, Sharyland had compiled a perfect 12-0 record and seemed to be well on their way to making a run deep into the state playoffs. However the Rattlers’ dreams of following in the footsteps of last year’s Sharyland boys’ soccer team and bringing their school a state championship came to a sudden end Friday night at Buccaneer Stadium in Corpus Christi. The Rattlers found themselves on the short end of a 40-13 score at the hands of the San Antonio Madison Mavericks.
